Synopsis: When Sydney police department sex crimes detective Harriet Blue is called into her boss’s office, she never imagined it would be to tell her that her brother is the prime suspect in the brutal murders of three women.
Shocked and in denial, Harry is transferred to Perth to avoid the media exposure this case will attract. Harry is sent into the outback – the never never – to investigate the disappearance of mine worker Danny Carter. The mining town is a seedy place, full of money and immoral ways to spend it. As Harry delves deeper into the murky lives of these miners, she finds that Danny isn’t the first to go missing.
Review:
I have never read any of James Patterson's work before and after reading this book, I am disappointed that I did not pick up his novel's sooner.
Never Never is the first book in a series of books featuring Harriet Blue, a cop working in the Sydney Police's sex crimes department. When her brother becomes the prime suspect in a series of brutal murders, Harriet's boss decides to send her away from the attention of the press to Perth where mine worker Danny Carter has mysteriously disappeared.
From the very first page, I immediately fell in love with the character of Harriet Blue. As a sex crimes officer, she has seen the worst of humanity and has developed a no nonsense approach to her work. Harriet is not only a tough as nails cop, her short temper often causes her to get into trouble often. As you progress through the story, you come to understand why Harry is the way she is & how that can often get her into very sticky situations very quickly.
I love James Patterson & Candice Fox's writing style. This story not only features the point of view of the main character, it also features the perspective of other characters featured throughout the novel including the killer. As a reader I really enjoyed the parts from the perspective of the killer, as it let's you into their state of mind and why they are committing these horrible murders. We need more crime books like this as I think that we should not always have novels from just one person's point of view.
Overall I absolutely devoured this book, finishing it in an afternoon. I am looking forward to the sequels in this series
