Synopsis:
War has come to the Witchlands . . . and nothing will be the same again.
Iseult has found her heartsister Safi at last, but their reunion is brief. For Iseult to stay alive, she must flee Cartorra while Safi remains. And though Iseult has plans to save her friend, they will require her to summon magic more dangerous than anything she has ever faced before.
Meanwhile, the Bloodwitch Aeduan is beset by forces he cannot understand. And Vivia—rightful queen of Nubrevna—finds herself without a crown or home.
As villains from legend reawaken across the Witchlands, only the mythical Cahr Awen can stop the gathering war. Iseult could embrace this power and heal the land, but first she must choose on which side of the shadows her destiny will lie.
Review: Going into the Fourth book of the Witchlands series, I knew that we were in for a wild ride after the events of Bloodwitch and for the most part we were.
The main thing I really enjoyed about this book was Iseult's character growth. She has always been one of the stand out characters in this series and I have always enjoyed her scenes in the books. In Witchshadow we find out some very major revelations about her past and her abilities and I loved that we finally got to find out more about her past.
I have always enjoyed the scenes with Iseult and Aeduan and I wish there was more scenes with them together in this book as I found myself missing their scenes together.
A couple of things I struggled with this book was some of the other characters side stories. While I have enjoyed having them in the story, I found that their stories in this book didn't really interest me enough to really care.
The other thing that through me off the story a bit was the flashbacks to a certain event that the reader is made aware of very early on in the story that were sprinkled throughout the book. I found that this could have just been told at the beginning of the story rather than spread throughout the novel as I found this distracted me from the focus on current events.
Overall, I enjoyed this book and I am excited to see how things come to fruition in the final book in the series.
